Nether portals are constructions made using the game Minecraft. They are portals to/from the Overworld, Nether, and, in the series, many computers. They are made of an obsidian frame, with the portal itself being purple with swirls.

Function[]

Keep in mind the portal and the portal frame are counted as separate things in this section.

Each portal is connected to a different portal. When you enter a portal, you come out in the portal it is connected to. One portal can be connected to several other portals at once.

To make a Nether Portal, a frame must be made out of obsidian that is at least 5 blocks high and 4 blocks wide (the corners are optional). Flint and steel is used to light a fire inside the frame to create the portal itself. A portal will be destroyed if part of the frame is moved or destroyed (except for the corners), or if a Minecraft Game Icon moves into the portal (in the series). The portal on the other side will also be destroyed, and if it is relit from the other side it might not lead to the same place as it did before.

When a portal is made, the place it leads depends on where it was built. If it was built in the Nether, it leads to the Overworld, but if it was built anywhere else, it leads to the Nether. If a portal is already there in the dimension it leads to, it will connect to that portal, otherwise a new one is generated. Some portals which are close together lead to very different places, though it was unknown how this was achieved, it could mean a portal could even lead to a different dimension than it usually would.

Nether Portals may be able to attract projectiles, like fireballs, as seen in The Ultimate Weapon - AVM Shorts Episode 25.

When King Orange created his second black hole to destroy Minecraft, any Nether Portals that were absorbed into it would result in those worlds being absorbed, as it's shown that the black hole can enter nether portals and absorb the worlds they lead to. The Village from Titan Ravager - AVM Shorts Episode 23, the Monster School, and the Witch's hut were all destroyed, but it's unknown if the portals to the Note Block Universe and the Outernet were also absorbed and if those worlds were destroyed too.

Animation vs. Minecraft Shorts Season 1[]

The Nether[]

After Blue makes a cake for Green to eat, a random zombified pigman cartoonishly lands on Blue, causing him to drop his cake. Green kills the pigman, but both stick figures notice strange purple particles coming from the STORAGE folder. They build cobblestone columns to get up to it, and when they enter the folder itself, it shows a portal inside, and they decide to go in.

After a long, chaotic battle with the Nether mobs that involves hijacking a ghast and using it to kill literally every single mob they see, Blue and Green, tired, decide to return to ALANSPC via their portal...only to notice another portal below them, which a purple stick figure comes out of. He looks around, disinterested, before going back in. Blue and Green follow.

Villagers[]

Blue and Green enter the Macintosh. Purple tells them about the Ender Dragon, and they go to The End.

The End[]

Red, The Second Coming, and Yellow notice the cobblestone pillars on ALANSPC and the strange particles being emitted from the STORAGE folder. They travel to the Macintosh while Green, Blue, and Purple fight the Ender Dragon, where they ask the villagers there about where Blue and Green are. Luckily, one of them knows and guides them to the End Portal.

After some stuff happens, the Stick Gang is ready to return to ALANSPC, only for Yellow to notice a whole network of eight Nether Portals behind him.

SkyBlock[]

Continuing off from the last episode, Yellow convinces the other sticks to come with him into one of the portals, succeeding with the other Fighting Stick Figures, but not with The Second Coming, who thinks it's too dangerous and chooses to simply return home. The four sticks enter a portal that's in the sky and lose their balance, falling on one another until they all fall onto a floating island - the SkyBlock server. They quickly make themselves at home with a farm for passive mobs, a farm for hostile mobs, and several other elements. However, a storm starts and allows the hostile mobs to escape and attack the Fighting Stick Figures.

Meanwhile, in sticksfight.com, The Second Coming senses the danger that his friends are in and returns to the Nether, ready to fight whoever is putting his friends in danger...only for a random ghast to launch an explosive fireball and deactivate the portal, forcing The Second Coming to blindly jump into the next one.

Meanwhile, on the other side, the four sticks make their way up to the portal, but just as Yellow puts his foot in, the portal deactivates, all four sticks staring in absolute shock.

The Killer Bunny[]

The Second Coming falls out of the portal, finding a bunny on the other side.

Meanwhile, in the SkyBlock server, the Fighting Stick Figures huddle up at the frame of the portal, not knowing how to activate it. However, the rain stops, and the mobs catch fire.

Back where The Second Coming is, the bunny's facade has been revealed and replaces the entire biome with TNT offscreen. When the bunny chooses to light it, The Second Coming literally runs through him to get to the portal, both entities desperately trying to stop the other from reaching the portal. However, The Second Coming takes advantage of the bunny's incredibly deep cannibalistic urges and throws a piece of rabbit meat for the Killer Bunny to catch, just barely managing to make it into the portal before TNT deactivates it.

The Dolphin Kingdom[]

Back in the Nether, The Second Coming is forced by Nether mobs to jump into yet another portal, this one leading to the interior of a stone cave.

Meanwhile, the Fighting Stick Figures rescue the Dolphin Queen from the Elder Guardian, so she and the Dolphin King repay the sticks by giving them a map to a Nether Portal that can return them to ALANSPC. They make it into a stone cavern, Green crying. However, on the other side of the wall, The Second Coming hears him slam his head against the wall in sadness and mines through the wall, reuniting the Stick Gang. The Second Coming "remembers" where the Nether Portal was, and prepares to retrace his steps back to the portal...only to realize the massive labyrinth of a cavern that he had made his way through.

Cave Spider Roller Coaster[]

The Stick Gang gets very lost on the way to the Nether Portal, and as a result, they lose Red, The Second Coming, and Yellow to the Cave Spider Colony, in that order.

Eventually, in a roller coaster, they manage to defeat the entire colony, and with a life-saving move from Red that saves them from falling into lava, they make it to the Nether Portal, and make a run for the portal...only to be cut off by the colony's leader. She defeats the entire Stick Gang, immobilizing the Fighting Stick Figures, before being interrupted by a random Wither. Taking advantage of the reprieve, The Second Coming drags his friends through the portal and back into the Nether. Off-screen, they proceed to defeat a massive group of mobs before they finally make it back to ALANSPC. From there, the Stick Gang furiously destroys the Nether Portal.

The Piglin War[]

Blue is out of netherwarts. Completely out of netherwarts. He has a memory of finding his beloved food in a fortress in the Nether, so he grabs some obsidian and some flint & steel, goes up to the STORAGE folder, builds the portal, and enters the Nether.

He eventually makes it to the fortress and finds out that the netherwarts have already been harvested, upset. However, a netherwart randomly lands next to him from above, and it's revealed that "The Second Coming" dropped it.

Meanwhile, on ALANSPC, the other members of the Stick Gang notice Blue's mess and the nether portal. The Second Coming prepares to break it, but Yellow, believing that Blue entered the portal, stops him. Red, meanwhile, spawns a pig, who sniffs his way into the portal, confirming that Blue entered it. The rest of the Stick Gang follows.

They just barely make it to the portal as Blue and "The Second Coming" enter it.

The Witch[]

The Stick Gang enters the portal, where they see "Blue", who reveals his netherwarts. The Stick Gang celebrate, and they go back into the portal. But for some reason, Red and Blue don't come through the portal, so Yellow goes to investigate. Yellow doesn't come back, so Green goes to investigate. Green doesn't come back, so The Second Coming and the pig go to investigate, where they find "Blue", who attacks The Second Coming.

A long fight eventually ensues, which leads to the Witch being turned into a purple dye and punched into the distance by a potion-enhanced Heroic Pig. The Stick Gang, back to normal, is ready to head home, when they meet Purple, who takes them to another portal. The Second Coming, however, tells his friends not to go in, after he remembers the misadventure he and his friends had last time, but he relents when they see Purple upset next to the portal, so they all go in.

Parkour[]

The six sticks enter the Parkour Course, where under the orders of King Orange, Purple traps them all in their respective courses, but they all eventually escape in various methods.

Yellow and Blue drop into King Orange's bastion, where they just barely manage to get past the Piglin Brutes and into the portal.

Titan Ravager[]

Yellow and Blue just barely make it out of the portal, sealing it up with cobblestone. Blue misses his friends, so Yellow makes a quick plan to get past the Piglin Brutes in the bastion: Make a new portal a few blocks away from the original portal, and sneak past the Brutes. Unfortunately, when Yellow makes the portal and lights it, it leads to the same portal that they just left, and they are immediately noticed by Brutes. Yellow and Blue seal up the portal and try again farther away, but the result is that the portal leads to the same portal yet again.

Later on, a pair of villagers are about to be killed by a Titan Ravager, but King Orange steps in just in time and uses his staff to kill them both. The villagers praise him, and he asks Yellow and Blue to come with him, building a nether portal to his fake quartz throne room.

Lush Caves[]

The Second Coming and Red make it back to ALANSPC just in time to see Purple fly out of the nether portal, the latter looking in shock at the former two.

The Ultimate Weapon[]

Red and The Second Coming fight Purple, who is attempting to steal ALANSPC's Minecraft Game Icon. Purple, unfortunately, eventually gains the upper hand, managing to get the Minecraft Game Icon into the Nether Portal, Red entering with him, but The Second Coming doesn't, as the entirety of anything Minecraft-related on ALANSPC is sucked into a vortex that the icon entering the portal accidentally created.

The Second Coming, trapped in ALANSPC, suddenly has an idea - email himself to AlexCrafter, grab his Minecraft Game Icon, and use it to get to the Nether. After carrying out this plan, he tests out the icon before building a new portal where the old one was and entering it, ready to fight King Orange.

King Orange begins to try and destroy Minecraft, but he is stopped by The Second Coming. Partway through the battle, King Orange throws a MASSIVE group of fireballs at The Second Coming, who manages to protect himself and stop the incoming fireballs by building two Nether Portals, which attract the fireballs.

Purple sees that the Fighting Stick Figures are overpowering the Piglin Brutes, so he tries to run away. Green uses a fishing rod to stop him, and Purple asks for help. However, King Orange abandons Purple, so Purple unhooks his elytra and runs into a portal to the Note Block Universe. Despite Yellow's attempt to stop Green, Green ends up following.

Unfortunately, King Orange's black hole proceeds to grow increasingly larger, eventually causing several Piglin Brutes to start floating, as well as Red and Blue. Red floats into a portal that leads to the Monster School, while Yellow and Blue make their way into the fake throne room, taking the portal that leads to the Titan Ravager Village. After Yellow swipes King Orange's command block, they make their way in.

Meanwhile, The Second Coming and King Orange continue to duel, but eventually, the former makes his way into the black hole, and a last-ditch effort from King Orange involves touching both icons, which causes a massive explosion, sending The Second Coming flying into a portal that leads to the Deep Dark biome.

The Warden[]

After befriending the Warden, they return to the Nether, ready to fight King Orange.

Monster School[]

After winning the race, Red tells his new friends about the nether portal that he fell into and how he needs to return to his friends, so Endie teleports them all to the roof of the school. With help from Spider, they all manage to get into the portal, successfully managing to save The Second Coming and the Warden from their restraint in netherite.

The Raid[]

Yellow enlists the help of the Titan Ravager, defeating the Illager Raid with fear of the massive beast alone. Once they're gone, the villagers celebrate as Yellow provides a lot of potion effects for the Titan Ravager and enlarges the portal, before the Titan Ravager jumps in.

The portal remains hidden under King Orange, but just as all hope seems lost, the Titan Ravager bursts out of the nether portal and takes King Orange and all his cronies by surprise.

Past[]

King Orange uses his staff to light a portal, which both he and Purple enter.

Present[]

After King Orange's change of heart, both he and Purple are sucked into (and get disintegrated by) the white void. From there, the Stick Gang takes the staff to the Nether Portal to create the vortex to deactivate it (because they can't turn it off). A team effort at the end just barely gets the staff into the portal and saves Minecraft just in time.

The Chef[]

The Stick Gang uses the portal to reach the Titan Ravager Village.

Trivia[]

Strangely, in Alan’s videos, nether portals are usually created by just placing ten obsidian blocks as the upper part of the portal, without placing at least two blocks below.
- Note that in some cases, like The King, the two bottom blocks are simply hidden by other blocks.
Sometimes the characters take longer or shorter to go through a portal (as seen when comparing the Warden and The Second Coming going to face King Orange, and Blue, Yellow and the Titan Ravager going to face King Orange).
