"Beta" is the fourth mini-sode. This one is based on Animation vs. Minecraft Shorts.

Synopsis[]

In 2011, Minecraft was still in Beta. Two travelers discover this new blocky world...

Plot[]

Set in 2011, The Chosen One and The Dark Lord are on a rampage, destroying everything in their path on the Internet. When they reach Minecraft, they burst out from a wall of sand. After getting their bearings, they take in the Minecraft scenery and decide to demolish it all. They start by attacking a few mobs and land in a crater from their explosion. Eager to cause more chaos, The Dark Lord takes off, while a block of stone mysteriously pops into The Chosen One's inventory. Curious, he discovers he can place blocks. After building a structure, The Dark Lord returns to see what The Chosen One has constructed and expresses a desire to blow it up. Initially hesitant, The Chosen One reluctantly agrees to let The Dark Lord destroy his creation.

After the destruction, The Dark Lord flies away, leaving The Chosen One alone for a while. The Dark Lord soon collides with a floating island, getting ragdolled around and ruining some crops in the process. He is then seen in a player-built village before heading into a Nether portal. Inadvertently angering a zombie pigman, he ends up in a pool in lava. It dawns on him that he has entered a realm very different from the more mundane one he just left. A horde of zombie pigmen now seeks vengeance on him, along with some ghasts hovering in the air. Laughing menacingly, he decides to counterattack one of the ghasts with his own fireball, successfully killing it. Another ghast retaliates, launching a fireball that The Dark Lord redirects towards the zombie pigmen before proceeding to brutally burn the ghast alive. He then engages the zombie pigmen with his fists and legs, flies over lava to feel its heat, and unleashes a massive explosion that obliterates all nearby zombie pigmen.

Meanwhile, The Chosen One is busy constructing a house made of stone and wood. He then encounters a creeper and attacks it with his laser vision, severing its head and creating a puff of smoke. Shortly after, he discovers a chicken and realizes for the first time that he can be injured. Feeling adventurous, The Chosen One decides to explore a cave, where he stumbles upon diamonds but doesn't dwell on their significance. He is later seen flying over water, turning some of it into cobblestone with a wave of his hand. After some time, he decides to eat his raw porkchop in a manner reminiscent of when he devoured Alan's Word document in Animator vs. Animation 3. He takes to towering over trees with his flying ability, eventually relaxing to watch the sunset. Not long after, a golden sword hits the ground blade-first, followed by a pile of them that The Dark Lord is holding, indicating he's been having a blast. Unfortunately, their time is up, and it is time to venture deeper into the rest of the Internet, with The Chosen One taking some cobblestone along for the journey.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first appearance of the Far Lands in the series.
  • This is the first Minecraft-related episode to physically feature The Chosen One and The Dark Lord.
    • This is the second Minecraft-related episode to feature The Chosen One and The Dark Lord in some way.
  • The Dark Lord uses his old fireball symbol.
  • The Chosen One building a tower of trees at timestamp 3:18 is a reference to Grian's Hermitcraft Season 8: Episode 2, in which he created a world-height tree on Mumbo Jumbo's camper van.
  • The cactus in the beginning scene grew taller in the ending scene.
  • The opening sequence of The Chosen One and The Dark Lord destroying Yahoo! and Angry Birds was used in Animator vs. Animation 7. However, the sequence is slightly faster and the episode lacks the Newgrounds and Stickpage scenes, implying it was The Chosen One's encounter with Minecraft's Beta that mellowed his attitude.
  • This is the first Animation vs. Minecraft Shorts episode where the Stick Gang don't appear at all.
  • The Dark Lord burning the Ghast alive is a parallel to The Chosen One trying to burn him alive during The Showdown, which happens right before he ignites his ViraBlades for the first time.

  • In the thumbnail, The Chosen One’s house has a roof. However in the video, his house has no roof.
  • This is the first and presently only non-Actual Short to feature both AvA and AvM in a significant role.
