So the title's kind of a spoiler but-
Anyway this story's now officially past the halfway mark! Thanks to those of you who are still reading it and those who participated in the Q&A on the fanon wiki! :D

--- Purple’s POV ---
Last night was a great one. I had retired to my quarters rather late, and I couldn’t sleep for a while. I woke up on the later side, and realized so when King was frantically knocking on the door.
“Yes?” I called out groggily. I just wanted more sleep.
“Purple!” King’s voice sounded concerned and worried. I wondered how late it was. “We need you on the top deck as soon as possible!” And with that, he left.
Now I was concerned. Why did he need me? Had something happened? Frantically, a thousand thoughts ran through my head as I got dressed and headed up. It was rather humid out, different from the usual clearness of the skies. What if a storm had occurred overnight?
Upon reaching the top deck, I could see that it was foggy and almost noon. Wow, I had slept late. Thankfully, there were no storms although it was quite windy. Gold and King were making sure all the barrels and crates were strapped down, and Carlos let down the sail. All three of them were struggling to hold their hats Gold had supplied them with on their heads. Mine too, which almost flew right off my head.
“Damn, why is it so windy?” I yelled over the wind.
“I don’t know!” King called back. “Captain, can you help me with the anchor?”
“Sure thing!” Carlos replied, jumping down from the mast and running over to King. I instantly perked up at the mention of the anchor. That could only mean one thing: we had arrived on land.
I looked off the edge of the ship, and sure enough in the furthest distances of the fog I could see traces of land, starting with the soothing sight of sand. However, the fog was so dense I couldn’t see much more. All the lanterns were lit and stationed around the ship, but roped down so they wouldn’t blow over.
Carlos and King dropped the anchor, keeping the ship in place. The four of us reunited by the mast, and King confirmed that we had arrived on land before any of us were awake. Apparently Gold had woken up at nine-thirty and realized that we were in a new territory. He then alerted King who worked on maintaining the ship and Carlos eventually joined them. A few of our lanterns had shattered due to blowing over. The very few we had left didn’t help very much with lighting the ship, especially since they swung like pendulums.
“We’re gonna need to use a small boat to get to land.” King was saying. “Then we’ll figure out exactly where we are.”
The rest of us agreed, and I assisted King and Carlos in getting what was technically a canoe ready to go. Gold grabbed the oars and waited on the top deck. One by one we boarded the canoe and Carlos and I rowed to shore while King carried a lantern. Despite the strong winds, the water was eerily calm. So calm in fact, that besides us, the wind was the only sound. No birds, no frogs, nothing. Just silence.
The beach was even more creepy. We could barely even see our own ship. We couldn’t see much of the land other than the small radius of the fog around us. King handed the lantern to Carlos and put me in charge of leading the traveling journey. He also suggested that we all stay together just in case. Meanwhile, he and Gold would leave a trail so we don’t get lost.
Not that we had to worry about that, though. After a couple minutes of traveling, the dense fog quickly cleared. “This is a phenomenon I’ve never seen before.” King noted. Looking back, it was almost like a whole wall of fog stretching into the sky.
The land before us was strangely dark. The sun was unable to shine through thick, dark clouds. There was only a slight breeze that was similar to the one at sea. The ground consisted of normal grass and trees, but it looked like we were in the eye of a storm. Not far from the truth, though. It was a very strange sight. The dark sky, the sandy-colored fog, and then the dark ground.
All four of us stopped short, marveling at the sight. The only sound now was us breathing, and occasionally leaves rustling.
“This… is something…” I murmured.
“So, this place is real…” Carlos muttered softly.
“Be careful guys,” King told us.
“It looks… cool…?” Gold inquired.
“Let’s go.” I said. “We’ve got a mission to do.” And with that, we marched on. The landscape around us didn’t change much, just the same forests and plains, and the same ominous fog. It gave me a weird feeling, and I didn’t quite get what I meant. It was strange how the only lifeforms here were plants. No other sticks.
I wondered if my dad was here. If this truly was the Distant Realm, I wondered why he would come here. There’s no life besides plants on this landmass. But maybe that was the point. Then, what has become of him? Is he even still alive?
We took a small break after a while of walking. We rested in a clearing in the forest. The four of us discussed the place we were in. For the few hours we’ve been here, nothing has changed. King reasoned that we should try to find a shelter before it got dark, just in case.
“Purple?” Gold asked. “Are you sure your dad is here?”
I thought about that. “No,” I replied. “I’m not certain, but it’s a possibility.” Honestly I’m glad no one was complaining about the journey. We might not even find my dad, but yet we continued on. King didn’t complain because he knew how important this was for me. Gold and Carlos didn’t complain because they enjoyed the adventure.
As the four of us were resting, Gold got bored and stood up, still full of energy. He decided to look around the place a little bit, and King let him as long as he didn’t wander off too far. I looked around at the forest around us. This entire place was unusual.
Soon, Gold came running back, yelling “I found something”, and the three of us were on our feet as fast as Blue could eat nether wart. We followed Gold as he led us to the end of the forest, where in the distance we could see a dark castle. It was really strange. There was absolutely nothing else here besides trees and grass, and then there was just this.
“Come on,” I instructed. “Let’s go on.”
